Utah State Parks- Coral Pink Sand Dunes

Okay, I am here with new destinations from my recent road trip to American Southwest. Because of the shutdown my campground reservations weren't valid anymore, the guided tours were refunded. Initially, I just had a list of places to visit in Utah. I did not have any direction, no certainty, I was hesitant but totally happy! Yes, I felt so.

Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park Utah

I started my long journey from glamourous Los Angeles in a rented Toyota Yaris. Said bye to my cousin and her two little sweet kids and looked forward to the long deserted roads amidst the red rocks, canyons and barren badlands of the American South-West. Though my first destination was the beautifully peaceful Zion National Park where I went on a awesomely memorable hike called Narrows- practically wading through the Virgin River in the narrow canyon. Will post about that soon in my great hikes series.

Well, coming to the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park ... Located 20 miles from Kanab this park is one of the little gems of Utah. I drove early in the morning and I didn't see much traffic. The sand is really pink :) Eroding Navajo sandstone gives the color. From here one can see the Vermillion cliffs.

I went wandering on the sandy hills. It was cold and wind was fierce. You can hear the sound of the wind in the video. Wind was almost pushing the hikers down the hills. The mild sun was playing hide-and-seek and so there wasn't much heat. The dunes are separated into two parts, a fence separating motor and walking area. Four-wheeling is very popular here.

I was surprised to see how the sands shifted. It was too windy and I stood for some time at one place. My feet were covered in sand in an instant and then slowly my legs were buried almost knee-deep in minutes. Took a small video of moving sand. Do you hear the wind? Along with the cold wind if sand particles hit your skin it is painful. Technically this is not a great video but, I just wanted to record the shifting sands!
