Travel Talk- Sometimes I dislike traveling!

Sometimes I dislike traveling

Surprised huh? Well, I love traveling more than anything in my life and I cannot imagine my life without traveling. Still, sometimes I dislike traveling when it comes to ...

Needing VISA- Though we all live in a single big world the boundaries drawn between the countries make us live in smaller and closed compartments. We need VISA to cross the boundaries and we are permitted only for few days. And being an Indian citizen I need a visa to get to all the other countries except for Nepal and Bhutan. Very few countries allow visa-on-arrival for Indian citizens. The procedure to get a visa is tedious and when you are jobless, even if you have quit your job to travel, it is even more tedious!

Touts- They are blood sucking leeches. They think tourists and foreigners are ATM machines! I hate when I find no other way but helplessly paying exorbitantly for below average facilities all because of these touts. Even sightseeing tours stop at shops and give us enormous amount of time to shop! Hell- I paid the precious money for sightseeing man!

Waking up early- to catch a bus/train/flight. I hate it the most when that early morning bus/train/flight is running late or is cancelled! And also sleeping in the airports when that very late night flight gets cancelled!

Dirty Toilets- Yes! we all hate dirty toilets. Who all travel to India complain about dirty toilets and also all the domestic travelers in India too complain about dirty toilets. They aren't wrong because most of these public toilets stink up to the heaven. I also get frustrated when I find no public toilets around! Many a times (not in India) I have bought a cup of coffee needlessly just to use the restaurant/gas station toilet.

Same questions- from people (non-Indians) on Indian culture and the movie Slumdog Millionaire. Nothing wrong in asking about indian culture but ... Every foreigner I meet asks me about the arranged marriages and also whether I would go for it. Well, I don't know and I don't even know I will get married at all! And the movie ... Slumdog Millionaire ... I hadn't seen it! After I was asked by many non-Indians I ordered a DVD and watched it. It was sick IMO. I haven't seen such slum in India or elsewhere, and I don't want to even if it 'really' exists! Well, also other questions from locals in every new city, or during my journeys ... where in India are you from? How long are you traveling? where all did you go? Why aren't you married? Please talk about your city, its greatness instead of asking my personal details!

Have you ever hated travel for any reason? Please share :)

  1. I am just glad to know you are human and experience some of the same frustrations as the rest of us mere mortals! But in the end it's all worth it for getting to be there isn't it!
